Project Description
The OILRC is working to actively engage and encourage people with disabilities to take control of their healthy eating and physical activity. In partnership with Independent Living Canada and the Sandy Community Health Hill Health Centre (SHCHC) we will be working to address the challenges that people with disabilities experience when trying to lead healthy lives.
The OILRC has received funding from the Ontario Ministry of Health Promotion, Healthy Communities Fund to develop and implement a healthy living program that will involve running activities and workshops in the area of healthy, which will include such things as cooking classes, label reading workshops, shopping buddy program; and physical activity, which may include yoga, Tai Chi programs, as well as botchi ball and sailing activities, to name a few. Also addressed in our program are tobacco use, substance abuse/misuse, and injury prevention issues, in the form of workshops and/or fact sheets that provide people with information on the harmful effects of all, and the best way to prevent them.
